JAY-Z Addresses Accusations He Sold Out Over NFL Deal on Jay Electronica’s ‘Flux Capacitor’

Roc Nation announced its partnership with the NFL in August 2019. The partnership came at a time when the NFL was still publicly having to contend with what many presume was the political ostracizing of Colin Kaepernick. Many feel as though Kaepernick was “blackballed” by the NFL because of the former San Francisco 49er quarterback opted to publicly protest the killing of innocent Black men by kneeling before the game officially started during the singing the nation’s national anthem. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since and innocent, unarmed people are still being killed in America at the hands of law enforcement (although most police killings of innocent citizens goes under the radar one such high-profile recent police murder can be seen here).

At a press conference for the announcement of the Roc Nation/ NFL business partnership, JAY-Z praised Kaepernick for his way of protesting, but added the new deal would allow a different approach towards dealing with the issue, explaining, “That’s his version of an action item, this is our version of an action item…We all do different things. We all work differently for the same results. I don’t knock what he’s doing, and hopefully he doesn’t knock what I’m doing.”

Critics suggested the Roc Nation founder’s deal with the National Football League was the equivalent of selling out by placing his financial interests over social injustices. On Jay Electronica’s recently released (3/12) debut album, ‘A Written Testimony’ HOV addresses these accusation on the track, ‘Flux Capacitor.’

“Why would I sell out? I’m already rich, don’t make no sense/
Got more money than Goodell, a whole NFL bench/
Did it one-handed like Odell, handcuffed to a jail/
I would’ve stayed on the sideline if they could’ve tackled that sh*t themselves”
