In a recent interview with Bootleg Kev and DJ HED for Real 92.3 LA Royce Da 5’9″ was asked to breakdown his lyrics, “put the effort in the art/ not the wave” to which Royce responds, “I feel like a lot of the wrong things are being marketed to the kids….The big companies and the ‘powers that be’ …they’re marketing fame to the kids. So a lot of the kids energy is being put into everything and the then the art [rap] becomes secondary.”
“You gotta treat it [rap] like art. That’s why I call it art all the time because the art is being hung up at the Louvre [Museum] in France. That sh*t is being sold for millions of dollars because it’s art; it’s consider art to the enthusiasts. You gotta kind of look at music the same way…”
Royce then elaborates on the psychological and business aspect of the Rap Game.
