Pete Rock Comes Down Hard On My Religion Is Rap; Swizz Beatz Shows Unwavering Support

Recently My Religion Is Rap posted a Live feed recording of the iconic Pete Rock who was conversing with East Coast emcee Torae. During their discussion, Torae asks Pete Rock, “If the sound gets right and you do do VERZUZ who’s somebody that you think- catalogue wise- you would match up with? Who do you think the people would want to see you with with?”

Pete Rock responds by stating, “It don’t matter but I like Madlib….If anybody it’d be me and [Madlib].” Soul Brother #1 goes on to mention the names of Erick Sermon, Q-Tip, Alchemist and Large Professor also.

After we reposted the clip Pete Rock took issue with us using the term “battle” and wrote on our IG page that the VERZUZ event would simply be “no battle just fun sh*t.” MRIR resounded to Pete Rock by stating,

“@realpeterock Pete Rock I hear you Good Brother— but the people hosting the events @therealswizzz & @timbaland called it “VERZUZ” basically one vs another in the context of traditional hip hop battling. All love it’s understood y’all are icons in this culture definitely no disrespect intended.”

Pete Rock went on to write,

“those cats im cool with and would have fun with no battle but you media niggas love flippin shit @myreligionisrap 🤦🏾‍♂️”

Swizz Beats, who’s facilitating the VERZUZ events along with Timbaland, offered unconditional support to the idea of a VERZUZ event with the above-mentioned names.

“Okay let’s go‼️‼️‼️”

Pete Rock was seemingly cool with the idea of a “battle” with DJ Premier. Rock captioned the post by stating,

“PVP LIVE IN TOKYO SOLD OUT SHOW 💪🏾❤️ IT WAS LIKE A TRUE BOXING MATCH HELD IN JAPAN 🇯🇵 @djpremier @yushi.hk I WISH EVERYONE IN THE USA WAS THERE TO SEE HOW CRAZY IT WAS”
