DJ PAUL Explains How SWIZZ BEATZ Stopped The LIVE Hits Battle Between 3-6 MAFIA And BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY From Happening

When the VERZUZ battles first began to take place on IG Live, fans of legendary rap groups Bone Thugs-N-Harmony & Three 6 Mafia began making noise on social media about which group would win in a “hits” battle. Even My Religion Is Rap joined the conversation by proclaiming on 4/21 that Bone’s catalogue is dominant (of course, that’s no disrespect to the Memphis legends we’re big fans of both groups). In the post, we tagged members of both groups along with Swizz Beatz & Timbaland, the two people who founded VERZUZ following the COVID-pandemic.

DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone were set to represent their respective groups in an IG Live battle on April 30 but the virtual showdown never happened. During a recent interview with HNHH, Paul breaks-down how the independently organized “Hits” battle between his Rap group and Bone Thugs was interfered with after VERZUZ sought to bring the battle to its platform.  DJ Paul explained,

“I was talking to [Verzuz] and they kept telling me they was gonna do it, man…Then, they just ended up changin’ they mind. It’s like, I don’t know why they came in just to stop our thing and then didn’t wanna do it. But whatever, I still got love for Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland. Love you guys to death.” Paul then explained how Swizz Beatz contacted Krayzie Bone less than an hour before the “Hits” battle was set to begin and persuaded the Cleveland-bred emcee to reconsider. Paul continued,

“It was finna happen…Like 30 minutes. Literally 30-35 minutes, literally 35 minutes before we went live, Swizz’s people called Krayzie Bone and they was like, ‘We gon’ do it on Verzuz, so don’t do it.’ And I was like, ‘Look dude, we still need to do it, man.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know— when is the Verzuz gon’ happen? Like, we still need to do it.’”

Noteworthy, DJ Paul continued by stating,

“I guess Krayzie didn’t wanna do— he’d rather do the Verzuz than ours. He just kinda backed off and stopped picking up his phone. And I was like ‘OK.’ And I just left it alone. And then next thing I know, he tweeted and said he didn’t wanna do it at all because of the temperature of what was going on in the world. Verzuz kept moving on and everything else kept going. I was like, ‘Alright, I kind saw this coming and I tried to tell you, but whatever.”

While we’re not sure if Krayzie tweeted what Paul mentioned in the interview the Bone member did tweet the following on 4/30.

Maybe the two groups will still have a “Hits” battle at some point in the future.
