Over 1000 Inmates Escape Brazilian Prison Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

The New York Post is reporting that “more than 1,000 inmates” escaped from four different prisons in Sao Paulo, Brazil which was a direct result of the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. The prisoners were reportedly angry with the restrictions imposed on them as a result of the virus. A video which has went viral shows hundreds of men fleeing a prison in the city of Mongaguá which contained 2,800 inmates.

174 inmates have been captured according to a statement issued by the Sao Paulo state’s penitentiary administration secretariat. Find the video up top.
