Los Angeles County officials have declared a state of emergency following six new cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19, in the last 48 hours. This brings the total cases for the State of California to 35 overall, which has more reported cases of COVID-19 than any other state. 27 cases have been reported in Washington State resulting in nine deaths thus far. There have been no additional deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. outside of Washington.

Kathryn Barger, chairwoman of the LA County Board of Supervisors, spoke to reporters on Wednesday (3/4), stating that she just signed off on declaring a local emergency, adding, “I want to reiterate that this is not a response rooted in panic.” Local health officials for the City of Pasadena and City of Long Beach are also reportedly planning to declare a local emergency later today.
