CRIP Member Sues NYC Dept. Of Corrections For Locking Him With BLOODS

Upon entering jail Khyree Manson instructed staff at the Detention Complex in Lower Manhattan, more notoriously known as The Tombs, that he was a member of the CRIPS. It is standard procedure for people sent to The Tombs to proclaim any street gang affiliations so that they can be housed with other members of the same gang. This is meant to facilitate the least amount of violence amongst NYC gangs while in the jail house. Manson was reportedly being held on a misdemeanor assault charge for domestic violence.

Despite reporting being a CRIP, Manson claims in a lawsuit filed by the Manhattan Federal Court that he was assigned to an area situated with members of the BLOODS and Folk Nation in an area referred to as 5 South.  The lawsuit goes on to allege that Manson was beat down the same day by several inmates and further insinuates the beat down was allowed to talk place because jail guards opened Manson’s cell. The lawsuit then alleges a bloody Manson stumbled outside of cell where he noticed to jail guards who did nothing.

Court papers indicate, “The guard standing outside (Manson’s) cell during the assault had to have heard the sound of the assault, if he did not otherwise visually witness it,”  The lawsuit then claims Manson was hit in full view of jail staff before being taken to Bellevue Hospital in order to received “multiple surgeries” for “multiple jaw fractures.”  The NYC Law Department declined to comment on the lawsuit.
