96 MS-13 Members Arrested in NY, Largest Takedown in State History

Multiple media outlets are reporting of a major raid in New York which resulted in the arrest of 96 alleged MS-13 members on Long Island after a nearly two-year long investigation. If charges hold, the operation would constitute the largest takedown of gang members at one time in NY state. New York has a history filled with gang activity. Authorities believe this massive takedown is a death knell for MS-13’s operations within New York.

The Wall Street Journal reports, “66 alleged gang members and 30 drug dealers who worked closely with the gang were arrested. The arrests occurred in dozens of locations, including in some Long Island suburbs and the Netherlands [Europe].”

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini stated to reporters, “This sends a very clear message to the leadership of MS-13 that New York is not your home, and it will never be your home.”

The investigation of alleged MS-13 activity for the operation lasted more than two years and included the wiretap and monitoring of more than 200 phone numbers. The 77-count indictment alleges MS-13 members conspired with other members of the organization from Oklahoma & Europe and that drug revenue would be sent back to MS-13 leaders in El Salvador.

Police claim to have seized more than 10 kilograms of cocaine, hundreds of fentanyl pills, long guns and other firearms, and more than $200,000 cash. Nine “clique” leaders from MS-13 were also taken into custody.

The organization, MS-13, is believed to have been started in Los Angeles during the 1980s by immigrants from El Salvador fleeing the country’s brutal civil war. We’ll have more info on this matter as the details become available. Catch the press conference footage of Suffolk County District Attorney addressing the bust below.
