Fugees’ Pras Arrested for Non-Payment of Child Support, Owes $125,000

On Monday (3/9) Pras Michel (legal name: Prakazrel Samuel Michel) appeared in a Manhattan courtroom over back due support payments he owes Ms. Angela Severiano, the mother of his 9-year-old son Landon. After the child-support hearing, Pras was arrested for failure to make a payment, according to Page Six.

During a recent court-hearing this past January, the former Fugees artist was ordered by a command of the court to make a $20,000 payment of the $125,000 he currently owes Severiano in back-due child support. Pras claims he had a friend mail the check on his behalf and even brought a tracking number as proof of payment. However, due to the tracking number not working while court was in session, Manhattan Family Court Judge Carol Goldstein ordered Pras to be arrested and held on a $5,000 bond pending a hearing next week.

“If I didn’t do it, I wouldn’t say it happened,” Pras insisted to Judge Goldstein about the payment in question.

To which the judge responded, “That’s not what I consider proof. You do not even know what day it was sent…I understand that your client believes that somebody posted the money. The tracking number doesn’t work. He is asking for additional time. I will direct an undertaking of $5,000.”

Police reports indicate Pras was released the same day after posting bail. Page Six further reports the reason the former Fugees member claims to have fallen behind on his $4,800 per month child support payments is because the FEDZ seized millions of dollars from him after the U.S. Government accused him of engaging in an international conspiracy scheme which led the FEDZ to seizing $37 million from Pras.

The NY Post reported back in May 2019 how Pras and ex-Dept. of Justice official George Higginbotham are accused of helping Malaysian-national Jho Low funnel some $73 million in looted Malaysian funds into four US bank accounts in hopes of influencing a U.S federal investigation.

Pras later suggested that racism played a role in the allegations against him and even filed a claim to get the money back into his bank account.
