Tyler Perry gave Gayle King a tour of his new 330-acre film complex in Atlanta, GA, which is bigger than the film studios at Disney, Warner Bros., and Paramount. Perry is the first African-American to own a film studio outright. The film complex features 12 top of the line sound stages, each named after Black icons in Hollywood.
Perry also discussed, during the interview, about constructing the studio on a former confederate Army base, stating,
“Think about the poetic justice in that. The Confederate Army is fighting to keep Negroes enslaved in America, fighting, strategy, planning on this very ground. And now this very ground is owned by me.”
