President Donald Trump on criticized the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today (3/13) for being inadequately prepared to face the ongoing pandemic over COVID-19 and it’s inability to test for the coronavirus. This comes as the President declared a national emergency, stating form the Rose Garden,
“I am officially declaring a national emergency.” The President states the declaration of an emergency will open up $50 billion for state and local governments to respond to the outbreak.
“For decades the @CDCgov looked at, and studied, its testing system, but did nothing about it. It would always be inadequate and slow for a large scale pandemic, but a pandemic would never happen, they hoped. President Obama made changes that only complicated things further….”

…. Their response to H1N1 Swine Flu was a full scale disaster, with thousands dying, and nothing meaningful done to fix the testing problem, until now. The changes have been made and testing will soon happen on a very large scale basis. All Red Tape has been cut, ready to go!

This comes after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sarcastically tweeted the following yesterday while tagging the President.
I know this is all hard for you, @realdonaldtrump, so let me spell it out:
– Free testing
– Fee waivers
– Emergency sick leave
– Quarantines
– Cancellations
– Giving a damn— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) March 12, 2020
Yesterday (3/12) former President Barack Obama also took to Twitter to suggest that cancel large-scale events such as sporting events, concerts, etc is worthwhile because over the course of the big picture less stress will be placed on the national health care system while experts continue to work on finding a solution in the meantime. See the graph below included in former Pres. Obama’s tweet.

If you’re wondering whether it’s an overreaction to cancel large gatherings and public events (and I love basketball), here’s a useful primer as to why these measures can slow the spread of the virus and save lives. We have to look out for each other. https://t.co/Ld7Uc8sPTQ
