Lil Wayne Facing 10 Years In Federal Prison

Lil Wayne’s (legal name: Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) has been served a federal weapons charge and his facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida has charged the New Orleans-born rapper with 1 count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Weezy was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York State back in 2009.

The recent fed charge stems from a December 2019 incident where federal agents raided a private jet with Lil Wayne on board (see here for that story) at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. The plane was ultimately en route to California.

Howard Srebnick, Lil Wayne’s lawyer, stated shortly after the 2019 above-referenced incident in Miami that his client was “cleared.”

TMZ is reporting that Srebnick is now stating Lil Wayne was charged for possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage back in December, stating,, “There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person.” Srebnick continued, “The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.”
