LeBron James took to social media in order to plead for assistance from his hometown citizens in Akron. In no uncertain terms, LeBron bluntly tweeted,
“AKRON OHIO!! My brother’s sister was murdered this past weekend in her home! My brother family need answers to why and by whom. My city I need y’all to go to work and find out who did this awful, shameful, disgusting thing to such a caring, loving angel! #Justice4EricaWeems”
According to local ABC affiliated News5Cleveleland, 37-year-old Ericka Weems was found by family members in Akron on Monday (11/1) with a gunshot to her head. Police have since launched an investigation but as of the publishing of this article have yet to identify any suspects let alone make any arrests.
Ericka Weems is the sister of LeBron’s lifelong friend, Brandon Weems. — Brandon Weems also happens to be the Cleveland Cavaliers’ director of scouting. The Cleveland Cavaliers has issued the following statement yesterday (11/4) on the matter via the team’s GM Koby Altman, noting,
“The entire Cavaliers organization was terribly saddened to learn about the recent tragic death of Brandon Weems’ sister Ericka. Our hearts are heavy and filled with pain over this senseless act. We express our deepest condolences to Brandon, the entire Weems family, their loved ones, and the Akron community. We will be with Brandon throughout this extremely difficult time and will offer our assistance and resources to help find justice for Ericka.”
LeBron and Brandon’s friendship goes back to their childhood days in Akron since meeting each other at Pee Wee football and eventually become teammates on their St. Vincent-St. Mary H.S. basketball team.
