Julian Assange’s Attorney: Pres. Trump Offered Pardon in Return for Covering Up Russian Interference

The reality of high-stakes politics is never completely known on first glance to the outside observer. Geopolitics requires the observer to not only not be reactionary but to be patient when drawing conclusions. With time, one can draw conclusions by connecting the dots. Understanding history also helps in this regard.

A lawyer representing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange made the claim in court on Wednesday (2/18) that President Trump offered his client a pardon in return for assisting with covering up Russian election interference.

Assange’s legal team claimed during a pre-extradition hearing in England that U.S. Congress member (R) Dana Rohrabacher “acted as an emissary for the White House” and offered the deal in 2017, according to British publication the Daily Beast. This would indicate that the alleged offer took place one year after the publication of Clinton-damaging emails that had been lifted from the DNC.

Former CIA-member (and current Georgetown professor and NBC contributor) Ned Price tweeted the following,

“It sure sounds like Assange’s attorneys are prepared to back-up this claim with evidence. It’s a another indication that Trump’s assault on the rule of law isn’t new; it’s been ongoing throughout his term.

And imagine just how much we don’t yet know….”

Trump’s White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham states the President “barely knows” Rohrabacher. Grisham also claims Trump has “never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject.” Assange’s team of lawyers, however, said Wednesday that they have evidence to back up their allegations. Assange’s extradition hearing is set to begin next week on 2/24.
