Former 1501 Artists Felt They Were ‘Signing with the Devil’, Label ‘Was On Some Bully Stuff”

After Megan Thee Stallion’s lawsuit against Carl Crawford and his label 1501 Certified Entertainment which the femcee won in court after accusing her label of preventing her from releasing new music, Complex spoke to other (former) label mates who are expressing a similar disdain for Carl Crawford’s business practices.

Houston rapper HardyBoy Pigg claims he was the first artist signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment and further insists that Crawford “left me for dead” while doing a three year jail stretch. HardyBoy Pigg adds that Crawford “was on some bully stuff” when it came down to dropping his music. In essence, HardyBoy is accusing 1501 of doing the same thing Megan has been vocal about lately which is claiming the label refuses to release his music.

Another rapper, Haroldlujah backed up both HardyBoy Pigg and Megan Thee Stallion’s claims about 1501, stating it was “like signing with the devil.” Haroldlujah suggests a personal matter eventually brought about a strained relationship with Carl, and further claims that 1501 was no longer promoting his music and says that 1501 owes him money, stating, “I’ve been hearing about a sit-down for three years. There’s never been a sit-down. My thing is, just give me my release papers and we can move on. I held up my end of the contract.”

Rapper Psyco Sid states that 1501 Certified Entertainment became overwhelmed after Thee Stallion started blowing up, claiming, “Megan, she started heating up so fast. I don’t feel like it was a matter of them refusing [to give me the money.] Carl just bit off more than he could chew at the time. I don’t see there being no ill will.” Psyco Sid opted to not sign to 1501 upon going over the contract and noticing a clause that allowed the label to get a percentage of the rapper’s merchandise even if the label didn’t pay to create the product.

Megan is now requesting a court of law to throw out her contract with 1501, alleging that the label did not provide her with promised services and they did not register her music with the copyright office. She further claims that 1501 has only paid her $15,000 since signing with them.
