CORONAVIRUS Hits One Of The Most Powerful Men In The Music Industry: Lucian Grainge

Media publication Variety is reporting that Universal Music Group (UMG) chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, one of the most powerful personalities in the music industry, has been hospitalized in Los Angeles’ UCLA Medical Center after showed he was positive with the coronavirus.

Interestingly, this comes after a host of celebrities and people of heavy influence attended Grainge’s 60th birthday bash on 2/29 in Palm Springs, California. Guests at the birthday party included, among others, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple senior VP Eddy Cue and music manager Irving Azoff.

The party took place at La Quinta’s Madison Club. Kris Jenner, Cindy Crawford, Ray Romano, Sylvester Stallone and Scooter Braun own homes there and since news broke of Grainge contracting COVID-19 communal facilities (including the golf course and club house) have been shut down.

UMG’s Santa Monica, CA headquarters were also shut down this past Friday (3/13). At this point most of the staff was already working from home. UMG put out the following statement:

“Previously, we have committed that if there were to be a confirmed case of coronavirus infection in any of our offices, we would immediately close that location. We have just been informed that there is a confirmed case of infection in an employee based in our 2220 Colorado Avenue offices. Accordingly and out of an abundance of caution, we are immediately closing all of our Santa Monica offices, and all Santa Monica staff are required to work from home until further notice.”
