Tidal is currently under the microscope after being accused of inflating streaming numbers involving it's elite talent such as Beyonce and Kanye West. These allegations were brought forward by Norwegian publication, Dagens Naeringsliv, stating that the numbers for Lemondade and The Life of Pablo were inflated by 320 million streams. This is significant considering the business model in place for digital music streaming services which hinges on paying artists from a shared fund which essentially means the inflated listens resulted in additional payments for any artist benefiting from such practices.
To be fair Tidal rigorously disputes the claims and has hired an internal team to look into the matter. One should also note that corporate espionage is a constant threat in the world of big business and a smear campaign should not be ruled out immediately.
