The world is changing and the Chinese have arrived. The Zhejiang Golden Bulls have offered aging NBA superstar free agent Dwayne Wade a contract to play in the mainland totaling $25 million. The deal would make Wade the highest paid player in China.
While many suspect that Wade may sign with the Miami Heat again, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that because of salary caps, the most the team could offer him would be $5.3 million. Wade recently returned from China on a promotional tour after he signed a lifetime deal with Chinese apparel company Li Ning. He revealed that he will make a decision regarding his playing future when he returned from the tour.
It was only a matter of time before professional Chinese sports clubs would begin to compete for premium American talent. Most top notch American athletes have been actively promoting their brands in China for years now. At some point this may place pressure on the NBA to increase the salary cap especially in order to allow NBA teams to pay the best talent top dollar as Chinese clubs begin to assert themselves more moving forward into the future.
